From the Shaw conference centre, Edmonton at the opening of the 2015 IASC Biennial International Conference on ‘Complexity and Change’.
Brenda Parlee and Prateep Nayak, co-chairs of the conference hosted by the University of Alberta, opened the conference this morning with references to the importance of the support for the conference from the Treaty 8 First Nations.
The 500 delegates attending the conference will be exploring a range of local, regional and global commons issues over the next four days – including specific attention on indigenous rights of the Treaty 8 Nations and how to manage environmental impacts from energy development.
