This Thursday, will see an exciting seminar take place at CCRI as our Leverhulme funded artist in residence, Antony Lyons, presents with regard to the Sabrina Dreaming (Severn Estuary Tidelands), project.
Antony is an independent artist-researcher, with an international status as a practitioner in the field of environmental art. Many of his projects are concerned with the linkages between ecological processes, environmental change and cultural activities. Areas of particular focus include water environments, deep-time (geological) perspectives, routes/journeys and intangible cultures. His research and production methods rely on open-ended creative fieldwork and experimental remixing of archives, recordings, data and contemporary narratives – explored in the context of both ‘slow’ and ‘intensive’ artist-residency. Resulting works include sculpture, film, sound and intermedia installation – addressing tensions, traces, transitions and environmental justice.
‘Sabrina Dreaming’ is focused on the Severn Estuary and seeks to expand and deepen the ways in which this water landscape is encountered and understood – scientifically, artistically and socially. New conversations and involvements will be initiated by developing film/sound/sculpture-based artworks, extracting some of the hidden and intangible essences of this coast.
Antony’s seminar will be taking place at the University of Gloucestershire’s Oxstalls campus, at 1215 Thursday 23rd January (where CCRI is based) and is free to attend. Details of the CCRI seminar series can be found here.
