CCRI Director, Professor Janet Dwyer, has been invited to give oral evidence in public today (25th April) in connection with the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee’s ‘Work of DEFRA: Health and Harmony inquiry’.
Leaving the European Union provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform agriculture. The ‘Health and Harmony: the future for food, farming and the environment in a Green Brexit’ consultation paper outlines how the Government plans to change the way we use the land, so as better to promote health and harmony and secure a bright future for both farming and the environment.
Janet will be giving evidence in the afternoon session, along with Phil Stocker, Chief Executive, National Sheep Association; Jilly Greed, cofounder, Women in Beef; and Peter Dawson, Policy and Sustainability Director, Dairy UK. The session will be seeking views on the likely impact of the changes proposed in the Command paper on farming, the rural economy and rural environment. Janet will draw upon evidence from several CCRI policy evaluation and rural research projects to address the Committee’s questions.
