The Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI) at the University of Gloucestershire is looking to recruit a small number of arable farmers in East Anglia to take part in a new European research project.
Funded under the EU Horizon 2020 programme, SURE-Farm aims to analyse, assess and improve the resilience and sustainability of farming systems, at a time of unprecedented change and challenge for the sector. Through a comparative analysis across 11 case study farming systems across Europe, SURE-Farm seeks to understand farmers’ risk management decisions and develop effective and usable risk management strategies and decision support tools. Case studies range from extensive beef cattle systems in France to small-scale nut production in Italy, from family horticulture farms in Poland to arable farming in the East of England.
For England, SURE-Farm is seeking to recruit a small number of East Anglian arable farmers to talk to us about how they make on-farms decisions and the knowledge networks they draw on to help inform that decision-making. We are also interested in understanding the demographic processes that influence farms, such as succession, entry and exit decisions.
Participation would involve a research interview with a CCRI researcher at your farm, lasting between one to one and a half hours. Interviews will be taking place between May and mid-July. It is really important to us to hear the voices of those working in the sector so they can inform the development of future risk management strategies and policies.
