The International Farming Systems Association (IFSA) has just announced a call for papers for its 2026 conference ‘Farming and Agri-Food Systems dynamics: facing crises and trade-offs in transition pathways.’
As pressures from climate change, biodiversity loss, market uncertainty, and rising global food demand escalate, there is a growing need to consider how agricultural systems can be enhanced and reconfigured to withstand external shocks while advancing ecological, social, and economic sustainability. Responding to current crises calls for structured approaches that guide farmers, stakeholders, advisors, researchers, consumers and policymakers toward systemic solutions that address these overlapping challenges
This symposium, which will take place in Montpellier, France aims to revisit progress and debates in co-designing and promoting sustainable Agri-Food systems to face crises and support multiscale decisions. It is being organised by the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (CIHEAM-IAMM) and takes place from 29th June to 3rd July 2026.
CCRI’s Julie Ingram forms part of the association’s steering committee and will be one of those reviewing submissions. She will also be convening the sessions on the theme of ‘Transformative Changes’.
The deadline for submissions is 30th September, and should be aligned with one of the four conference themes:
- Theme 1. Transformative changes
- Theme 2. Landscape and communities
- Theme 3. Capacity development to support systemic change: approaches, methods and tools
- Theme 4. Food Production, Consumption, Food Landscape & WEFE Nexus resources
Further details regarding the conference, including a preliminary agenda and instructions for how to submit a paper for consideration can be found on the conference website.
