Jane Mills and Charlotte Chivers had a productive meeting for the EU-funded SPRINT project in Aveiro, Portugal during September.
The SPRINT project is exploring the impacts of agricultural pesticide use on environmental and human health, and is now entering its final year. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review progress, coordinate for the final year, decide on some key messages for the project, and hear from related projects including NORMAN and the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC). Work package leaders presented updates on upcoming reporting periods and collaboration.
Jane and Charlotte we able to visit several vineyards in the Bairrada case study area for which the CCRI is resposible. They also we visited an organic farm ‘Quinta de Baixo’ and explored the cellars of Quinta do Encontro and had the opportunity to meet with farmers’ advisors, Eng. Cesar Almeida and Eng. Sónia Leite, at São Domingos Vineyard, followed by a visit to their cellars for wine tastings and discussions.
