This Friday, CCRI Director Janet Dwyer will be Chairing a ‘Climate Emergency’ Question Time debate for local students. The event, organised by Gloucestershire’s ‘Vision 21’, will be an opportunity ‘for local students to challenge politicians’ on an issue which will affect them in coming years, but at present they have no say in how these issues are tackled by government and their policies.
Peter Clegg trustee of Vision21 Gloucestershire’s premier sustainability charity said, “hosting a Question Time event for school age students is just such a brilliant way for us to celebrate our 25th birthday. I am so pleased the politicians when asked to participate all said ‘yes’ without hesitation. We have an excellent Chair to make sure there is no whitewash or greenwash”.
The event will be based around the BBC’s popular topical debate ‘Question Time’ with five politicians answering questions from local students with Janet Dwyer as Chair.
The panel will be comprised of:
- Molly Scott Cato – MEP for the South West of England and Gibraltar.
- Alex Chalk – MP for Cheltenham.
- Martin Horwood – MEP, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Leckhampton and former Cheltenham MP.
- George Penny – Member of Cheltenham Labour Party.
- Max Wilkinson – Liberal Democrat Councillor for Cheltenham and prospective parliamentary candidate.

The event, which is free to attend, but registration is essential, will take place on Friday 18th October at 1pm at St. Andrews church, Montpellier Street, Cheltenham, GL50 1SP. Full details of how to register for the free event can be found on the EventBrite page.
