The University of Gloucestershire is holding an Open Day on Sunday 19th November on its three campuses based in Cheltenham and Gloucester.
CCRI’s postgraduate leader, Dr Matt Reed, will be on hand at Oxstalls Campus in Gloucester between 11am and 3pm to offer information about the postgraduate and research opportunities in the CCRI.
The CCRI has supervised over 30 postgraduate students to successful completion of their PhD and has a thriving research student community. It holds an annual Postgraduate Winter School, which provides a friendly and supportive environment for postgraduate students working in rural research to present their work and receive feedback from CCRI staff.
Recent PhD successes include Dr Julie Urquhart, who graduated in 2010 and who has recently returned to the CCRI as a Senior Research Fellow after working as a researcher at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London.
Current student, Kate Smith, is now nearing completion with her Masters by Research project. Her thesis has been evaluating the use of 3D landscape visualisation technology (Google Earth) for enhancing and improving participation in Natural Flood Management (NFM). The CCRI is part of a Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) led by Cardiff University, which means that CCRI students in the DTP can benefit from funding as well as training opportunities from a large team of specialist social scientists and the chance to work with the CCRI on practical research.
The open day will include campus tours, drop in sessions, information on finance, accommodation, admissions, student support and the Students’ Union.
