This week, CCRI Director Professor Janet Dwyer will take part in the Prague European Summit which takes place on the 18th and 19th of November. The summit aims to find common answers to the key questions in the economic, social, foreign-political and institutional areas of the European Union. It will achieve this via a platform for strategic dialogue about common responses to the EU challenges.
Janet has been invited to participate in a lunch-time session focussed on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This is an area that Janet and the CCRI have significant expertise in, with numerous projects relating to this area of European policy.
Janet is intending to highlight the ways in which there are benefits within the new CAP regarding flexibility of funding but that there is a need to ensure that climate targets within individual member states and at EU level are also fully incorporated. She will also make comments regarding the longer-term potential for reaching net-zero within the farm sector, and highlight the importance of adaptation strategies for climate change.
Recent work within the CCRI that relates to this topic includes an evaluation of the impact of the CAP on knowledge exchange, advice and innovation; ongoing work supporting the Maltese Government in its preparation of their CAP strategic plan; and the completed Horizon 2020 project ‘PEGASUS‘.
