The “Farmer Action for Tree Resilience” project, led by Forest Research (and including the CCCRI, University of Exeter, FWAG South West and the Organic Research Centre), is developing better ways to support farmers in managing the health and resilience of trees on their land. Recognising that existing advice often overlooks how tree resilience links to wider farm business success, the project works directly with farmers and agricultural knowledge networks to understand motivations, barriers and needs, and co-design practical knowledge tools and interventions. By raising awareness of tree health issues and testing ways to communicate and build skills, the initiative aims to help more farmers take proactive action to protect and enhance trees within their systems, strengthening resilience to pests, disease and environmental change while benefiting both the farming community and the wider landscape.
The CCRI’s involvement will focus on designing and co-conducting Theory of Change workshops with farmers. We will also work closely with our partners on the interim and final evaluations.
The 3 year project, funded by the Centre for Forest Protection, will involve Dr Julie Urquhart, Dr Alice Goodenough and Chris Short.
Further information about the project can be found on the Centre for Forest Protection’s website.
