Between 2008 and 2010, a CCRI team was part of a pan-European research team (16 partners from 12 EU Member States) working on a project called EDORA, which was funded through the ESPON 2013 Programme and partly financed by the European Regional Development fund.
The over-arching aim of the EDORA project was to better understand the development opportunities and challenges facing rural areas in Europe in order to support targeted policy development, especially in relation to job creation and social change. The three key issues were
- the need to better understand patterns of differentiation between different kinds of rural areas
- the nature of the different opportunities for development which each of them faces
- the way in which such opportunities depend upon and may be strengthened by interaction between rural and urban areas.
The CCRI has now produced a project summary outlining the key findings of the research, which can be downloaded free of charge.
