Wales’ rural affairs secretary, Lesley Griffiths, is visiting Spain to promote Welsh food and drink in Catalonia and the Basque Country and learn from various food groups and businesses.
This visit comes on the back of Professor Janet Dwyer’s report for the Public Policy Institute for Wales, entitled ‘The Implications of Brexit for Agriculture, Rural Areas and Land Use in Wales’, published earlier this year, which suggested that the anticipated changes to trading conditions and relationships might leave Welsh agriculture in a disadvantaged position compared to its main trading competitors after 2022.
Janet’s report is quoted in an online news item on FarmingUK in respect of the rural affairs secretary’s visit.
Janet also gave evidence relating to Brexit and agriculture to the External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee at the National Assembly for Wales in Senedd on 21st May 2018, who met to consider the implications for the Welsh economy and addressed a wide range of issues relating to agriculture.
